I’ve spent the last year working on a project. Flexing my creative muscles in a slightly different way. I’ve been making music. And now I’m ready to let other people listen to it. I’ve spent many, many hours putting it together and I think it’s finally just about ready to face the world. I’m genuinely quite nervous about it for some reason.
Now, full disclosure: I can’t play any instruments. All of the songs I’ve written were digitally created, but it’s not EDM. If I had to pick a genre that fits best it would probably be ‘synth rock’, but there’s quite a variety of stuff on my ‘album’. There aren’t any vocals, it’s all instrumental, but I do have some lyrics jotted down for a few of the tracks. I am in no way a singer and as some people will tell you, the sound of my voice would be enough to make grown men cry.
‘Album’ is in inverted commas in that last paragraph, by the way, because it’s more of an evolving project that I don’t consider to be done just yet. But I’ve got enough music that I consider to be pretty good that I’m happy to share it with the world. I intend to add more to it to fill in some ‘gaps’.
Oh, more inverted commas. There are gaps because they’re gaps in the story. In other words, I suppose you could call what I’ve put together a concept album of sorts. The only hints you’ll have to the narrative are the song titles for now. Hopefully I’ll be able to elaborate on it in time, one way or another.
Anyway, that’s enough. I’d appreciate it if you could give it a listen. All the tracks can be listened to, for free, on Soundcloud; I’ve embedded the playlist below. Like I said, it’s been a lot of work and experimentation – I am not trained in musical theory in any way, but I genuinely think some of the songs are quite good. In the brief time I’ve had them up publicly on Soundcloud before writing this post, one random person has even called my song Green Noise “hella hard shit” which I think is a compliment??
One last night: Soundcloud has done this annoying thing where it occasionally cuts off the first few milliseconds of the songs. This seems to be a common, but totally random, issue; fixing it would be a pain in the backside. So, sorry if some of the tracks seem to start a bit abruptly or something.
Let me know what you think 🙂
